The second piece in my series on typography, BLUE.
This is more polished than my previous piece, GREEN, in the sense that the elements/background blend and fit together much more seamlessly.
The subject, obviously, is text stranded on an island. Text made in Xara 3D, moved to Photoshop. BLUE is a matching piece to my ID, Journal, and Avatar.
I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed making it!
----------------------------------------------- Technique: First, I rendered each letter seperately in Xara3d. Then I started on the background. Blue color and a white-black radial gradient (Soft Light) in the center. I added a desaturated grunge texture in Overlay. Afterwords I placed the text in the middle, and applied a layer style for the face of the letters. I added a pink layer (Soft Light) to the sides of the letters. Then with a hard brush I made white pen strokes (Path -> Stroke Path) on the sides, set them to overlay, and gave them a subtle gaussian blur and reduced opacity. Added futher textures, and white radial gradients. Using the polygonal lasso tool I created white rays, blurred them, and set to Soft Light. Then I went to sxc.hu and got some sand, pasted in it, and with a soft brush removed the hard edges. Next, I got a good image of a wave, pasted it, and copied it all around the sand, to create the illusion of an island. Finally I made each tentacle in a group, with a base color, shadow, and light (Overlay) layer. I applied layer masks to the groups themselves. And I finished.
